POST-PROM ACTIVITIES EXTEND FESTIVITIES
The pictures have been taken, the shoes have long since come off, and the music is slowing down. As the last dance comes to an end, the common misconception is that the night is winding down. However, for the majority of students, the traditional prom festivities are only just beginning.
The phenomenon of “post prom” has long been a highly controversial subject. According to StatisticsBrain.com, 53 percent of prom-goers nationally will drink four or more alcoholic beverages on prom night. In response to the societal fears that teenagers will engage in alcohol, drugs, and other illegal and dangerous practices, the attention of parents, teachers, and administrators across the county has shifted towards combating the stigma of underage drinking by providing safer alternatives, according to the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) website. While many schools host school-affiliated after parties, Roberson does not, leaving students to find unique alternatives.
One option that students have chosen to participate in past years is bowling. Though bowling shoes may not coordinate with your dress, it does allow for the competition to heat up as you take on your friends and dates in the classic game. AMF Star Lanes is located off of Tunnel Road and is open until 1:00 a.m.
After all of the dancing, who can forget food? Both Cookout and Waffle House are known for their late night hours and provide a low-cost, and undoubtedly greasy bite to eat. The French Broad Chocolate Lounge is open until midnight, and their decadent chocolate treats are the icing on the cake for an unforgettable night. Part of the allure is showing up dressed to the nines, so keep your dresses and tuxes on and watch heads turn as you make your grand entrance.
However, when asking what students are planning to do this year after prom, the most popular response is going to a friends’ house for the night. Whether it watching movies all night in their basement, camping in a backyard, or simply recounting the memories made before falling asleep, the majority of prom-goers will stay with friends until the next morning, drawing the fun out the whole night long.
From food to bowling, skating to sleeping, the opportunities to continue the night of your life are endless. Just remember to be safe, be smart, and have fun.
