Staff Editorial: school spirit
Packed stands and screaming fans. Spirit days, pep rallies, school dances, and the prominent display of Ram Pride across the campus. The stereotypical idea of “school spirit’ makes learning seem like a party, and school quickly becomes a place to be proud of.
But we’ve become complacent, and bogged down by the daily grind that high school presents. In the midst of tests, papers, and hours of homework, celebrating the good that high school carries with it tends to get forgotten. We’ve forgotten what it means to come together and cheer for both ourselves and our peers.
But we’re trying. The change is underway.
Gone are the days where clubs were “lame” to join. Gone are the nights when sports games were a chore to attend. Gone is the mentality that we are “too cool” to show our support for our school.
With the RamFam adding themes to home games, we have revived the student section into a mass of wildly screaming, animated fans. Pep rallies have once more become a routine way to unify ourselves as a single student body. The TC Fight Song was taught to and sung by the school. Spirit Week was so successful that a second, holiday-themed week is scheduled for next week.Teachers are making history with the first faculty “Secret Santa” gift exchange, along with the annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest. And tonight, the school is holding the Snowball Dance, the first school dance in several years.
We’re doing it. We’re making the effort, and the effort is at least attempting to pay off.
People are now excited to come to school, and sitting in the classroom has become less of a chore. Step by step, we are channeling our energy into something that brings smiles and joy back into the halls of TC.
Being a ram is something to be proud of. Our academics are high, our sports teams are strong, our clubs constantly participate in creative and unique activities, and our teachers are top-notch. Now it’s time to show the rest of the world that rams are indeed carrying a legacy, and positively influencing the future of the school.
As the currents of change are flooding the halls and revitalizing the once dormant school spirit, I challenge you to plunge headlong into the movement. Spend your days invested in a cause to rally together and bring out the pride in us all, instead of commiserating over the small tribulations. Bring back the joy, and be a part of the new and improved TC Roberson student body, one that is focused on highlighting what it truly means to be a ram.
